We were approached by the owner of a former car garage, petrol station and shop in Mere, Cheshire to investigate the potential to redevelop the site and maximise its value.
The site is situated in the Cheshire East Green Belt and consisted of a number of small buildings around the garage forecourt with some open land to the rear. After a drawn-out battle with Cheshire East Local Planning Authority, we obtained planning consent for 4 detached properties on the site.
The houses were 4/5 bedroom with master suites and en-suites to each. They included open plan living kitchen dining rooms and were situated around a shared access and courtyard. The properties benefit from large rear gardens and a rural aspect to the rear.
Our initial client sold the land with planning permission and we were subsequently appointed by a new party on the project from building regulations through to completion. Being a former petrol station, the site presented some challenges in relation to the ground conditions. These were overcome through close liaison between our Architects, building control and the rest of the design team. Our client carried forward our design ethos through the construction of the properties, creating modern rural living. The buildings retain traditional elements externally with brick detailing slate roofs and a brick sett courtyard but have a contemporary style through large rear openings, open plan layouts and modern interior design.
It is a great pleasure to see our designs realised and the properties which are on the market beginning to be occupied.
