We have obtained planning approval for the demolition of an existing bungalow and construction of two new dwellings on a site in Knutsford, Cheshire.
We were appointed to design two distinct and individual dwellings, both striking in their appearance. One dwelling was to be of a traditional Cheshire style using Cheshire Brick and local roof slate, with the other new dwelling being of contemporary design. The site would be split into two plots providing future residents of the properties with private parking and garden space. Plot 1 was traditional in character and sited towards the front of the site to provide fluidity of linear development along the street scene. Plot 2 is a contemporary scheme designed to provide a modern home for the client. The proposal was to provide a lightweight low scale property with bedroom and en-suite at ground floor level and additional accommodation at first floor for guests. Plot 2 is of unique and contemporary character. The layout was developed around the site constraints and lent itself to providing a focal spine to the north with the main accommodation constructed to the south and east in a lightweight rendered structure. The feature wall is designed in a stone cladding panel to provide focus to the north elevation of the property. The mass of the property to the south and east are a lightweight appearance. The scheme has been designed carefully to minimise impact on the adjoining properties and tree lined streets whilst also allowing the existing bungalow to remain occupied during construction of plot 2.
