St James' Church and Hall

We are appointed by St James Church in Sutton to look at a solution for the provision of welfare facilities within the church as welfare facilities were only available in the adjacent church hall. A proposal was put forward to create a small extension to the front of the church to include a small hallway, kitchen and disabled W.C to assist in avoiding major internal layout changes within the church itself and the loss of pews and other church spaces.

We were also later involved with the refurbishment of the church hall and were appointed to complete the building regulations and on site works to provide new kitchen and w.c facilities, and a refurbished and improved community space. Complete refurbishment of the building was completed with roof repairs, insulation and reroofing with new and reclaimed slates provided, provision of a new central heating system, overhaul, repair/ replacement to wooden church hall floors, along with external conservation of stonework, to provide a safer, accessible and fit for purpose facilities with improved access for full inclusion for disabled users of the space.

The next stage of works at the site involved the restoration of the stained glass window to the south elevation of the church.

Panels of the existing window were bowing inwards distorting the shape of the window and damaging the lead cames.  An ICON Accredited Conservator was appointed to complete the works.

The window panes were removed and each pane individually restored. Lead cames were removed and replaced.  This was an intricate and unique element of the building to be involved with and the window was successfully restored as an exact likeness.
