Black Firs Primary School is an academy and part of The Learning Partnership (TLP) multi academy trust and a member of the Congleton Education Community Partnership.
We initially worked with the school to develop a scheme that they had already obtained planning approval for a new pre-school and nursery. JAP were appointed to obtain funding through the government’s CIF scheme. Following a successful bid, we were appointed to take the project forward to building regulations and to oversee the works on site.
The project was a standalone mono-pitch building in the grounds to the primary school. The building included a green sedum roof and tonal green cladding panels. A mezzanine level was provided internally as a play space for the pupils. A timber frame canopy links the new building to the new outdoor play area.
Following the works the school increased its pupil intake numbers due to increased demand in the area. JAP worked alongside the school and The Learning Partnership to obtain government grant funding to increase the school's accommodation to allow for this increase in the school population. Our team of Architects completed concept design, planning application, building regulations and technical drawings. We tendered the works and administered the building contract, overseeing the works on site.
The project was an extension designed in an architectural style to complement the existing pre-school which was completed in 2015. The extension includes two new classrooms, a quiet learning space and smaller teaching area, refurbishment of existing classrooms and kitchen to the front of the school. The extension provided much needed additional teaching space for the school whilst also enhancing the aesthetics of the front elevation. The curved facade with green cladding and render create a striking focal point for the building on the approach from Longdown Road.
